Several authorities are probing the possible link between the two incidents. The explosion involved a Cybertruck, worth $80,000 and produced by Musk's firm, Tesla, which was seen ablaze outside the hotel's revolving doors. The blast led to one fatality and seven injuries around 9 a.m., according to Las Vegas law enforcement.
By Wednesday afternoon, he established that the explosion was not linked to the Cybertruck but was due to a bomb or large fireworks positioned in the truck’s bed. The vehicle had been rented by an unidentified person via Turo. Musk noted that authorities now consider the explosion to be intentional.
Musk also noted that both the Cybertruck tied to the Las Vegas blast and an F-150 used in the New Orleans incident had been rented through Turo, hinting at a potential relationship between the two events. He added that Tesla vehicles continuously transmit their health data, giving his team the ability to confirm that the vehicle's mechanics were performing correctly before the explosion.
The Sheriff Kevin McMahill stated that the explosion in Las Vegas is being investigated as a potential act of terrorism. In New Orleans, Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42, used an electric vehicle to strike a crowd, killing 15 pedestrians and injuring many others. McMahill underscored the increased vigilance in response to both events, commenting, "Considering the incident in New Orleans, the victims, and the extra IEDs, we are taking all necessary precautions to safeguard the community."
