Olasupo has been instructed to present himself at INTERPOL’s office on Monday, 13th January 2025.
A statement shared on his Facebook page, and later obtained by DAILY POST on Sunday, confirmed the broadcaster’s receipt of the invitation.
As outlined in the statement, Olasupo initially received the notification on Monday, 30th December 2024, requesting his attendance at INTERPOL headquarters at Force Headquarters, Shehu Shagari Way, Garki, Abuja, for continued investigation of the allegations.
The letter, received through his employer, prompted his boss to promptly consult a lawyer, Barrister Yomi Ogunlola, who replied on his behalf, resulting in the meeting being deferred to the new date.
Through the statement, Olasupo expressed his feelings and reservations.
"A letter bearing the title Investigation Activities/Invitation Letter from INTERPOL was recently delivered to me, alerting me to an investigation into criminal defamation and cyberstalking allegations. I was instructed to report to their headquarters in Abuja on 30th December 2024 at 11:00 AM."
"Once the letter was delivered, my boss contacted our lawyer, Barr. Yomi Ogunlola, who replied on my behalf. This led to the change of my appearance date to Monday, 13th January 2025."
"There are many things I need to know: Who made the report to INTERPOL? Why was INTERPOL the body to handle this? Who is defaming or cyberstalking whom? My Lord, I am innocent of these claims."
"While I do not have all the details of the case at the moment, I will fully cooperate with INTERPOL’s investigation. However, I am curious—why is it necessary for me to go to their Abuja office? Why not the Nigeria Police Headquarters in Oyo State, Eleyele, Ibadan, or their Lagos office, which is more convenient for me by train?"
"INTERPOL, if your goal is to facilitate this process, shouldn’t you provide travel support or arrange for transportation? Air travel can be expensive, and road travel poses its own risks. However, I will comply with your directive."
"To my followers, be reassured that this will not deter my commitment to the truth, professionalism, or my dedication to holding those in authority accountable."
"When reached for clarification, Olasupo assured the truth of his statement."
"Good evening, sir. Yes, it's accurate," he told DAILY POST on Sunday night.
