He believes politicians are aware of this lack of accountability and exploit it.
Mr. Macaroni articulated his views in response to a social media proposition that Nigerians disengage from following celebrities who fail to publicly address specific national concerns.
Mr. Macaroni used a lengthy ? post to argue that it's unfair to manipulate celebrities into speaking on certain issues, and that they shouldn't be asked to sacrifice more than the general public.
he illustrated an instance where Nigerians fail to act against police brutality witnessed on the streets, but then aggressively target celebrities online for not vocalizing their opposition.
He maintained that in the face of genuine aspiration for change, Nigerians will not defer to celebrity pronouncements.
"I strongly disagree with this post!" he wrote. "Don't demand sacrifices from celebrities that the public isn't willing to make. Celebrities are citizens too. If most people are silent, why single out celebrities?"
"Also, it's important to remember that not all celebrities wish to speak on social issues. It's unfair to impose this expectation, especially as we are attacked when we do!"
"It's wrong to force advocacy on people simply because of their fame. Consider this: Nigerians see police brutality firsthand, but instead of acting, they become passive observers or record it. Then, they shift the blame to celebrities online for not addressing the same issue."
"True change in Nigeria will come when citizens realize their own power and don't rely on celebrities. They'll rise up and lead themselves. I remain committed to speaking out against oppression and poor governance."
"I've always fought against these issues, even before I was famous. But please don't hold other celebrities to my standards, especially when the public isn't holding themselves accountable."
The root of political corruption in Nigeria is the lack of citizen accountability. Politicians capitalize on our tendency to adapt. We need to unite, celebrity or not, transcending tribal and religious divisions, to hold our leaders responsible.
