The Official handover, conducted on Monday, January 13, at the Government House in Agodi, Ibadan, heralds a new beginning for the respected Oyo throne. Governor Makinde noted the pivotal role of the Alaafin, serving both as a traditional figurehead and as a steward of the kingdom’s invaluable cultural heritage.
Seyi Makinde highlighted his confidence that Oba Owoade would steer the Oyo kingdom with insight, moral uprightness, and an unwavering dedication to its cohesion and prosperity.
The new Alaafin, in his acceptance remarks, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Oyo and pledged to dedicate himself to the progress of the kingdom and the prosperity of its residents.
The late Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, who served as Alaafin for an impressive 51 years until his death, is succeeded by Oba Owoade. The Oyo State government confirmed Prince Owoade’s ascension to the throne on Friday.
