Prior to this, American skateboarder Nyjah Houston and French swimmer Maxime Grusset, bronze medalists at Paris 2024, shared their dissatisfaction with the inferior quality of the medals. Within just two weeks following the event, their medals began to break and shed.
French players Clément Secchi and Yohann Ndoye-Brouard also uploaded pictures of their well-worn bronze medals, which they achieved as part of the 4x100-metre medley relay, on social media.
A picture Was posted by a Houston of medal taken just 10 days after his event at last year's Games. He commented: "Alright, so these Olympic medals look great when they’re brand new, but after sitting on my skin with some sweat and letting my friends wear it over the weekend, they’re apparently not as high quality as you'd think. I mean, look at that thing. It’s looking rough. Even the front is starting to chip off. So yeah, Olympic medals, maybe you gotta step up the quality a little bit."
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games took place from July 26 to August 11, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 28 to September 8.
